Řepková, Andrea ; Jirků, Jan (advisor) ; Trunečka, Ondřej (referee)
The diploma thesis Comparison of Approaches to Online Formats in Selected Czech Media Depending on Corporate Convergence deals with the question of how the approach of selected Czech daily newspapers Mladá fronta Dnes, Deník Právo and Hospodářské noviny to their associated online news servers differs. Since the chosen media share a common characteristic, which is their originally purely print format, the author first describes the concept of media convergence, the process of media internetisation, explains the concept of digitalisation and the economic principles of media. As part of the research, the author first conducts a content analysis of texts published in the print versions of the media, which she then searches for on a news server and compars. The author also conducts three semi-structured interviews with representatives of the selected media. From the data obtained, it can be concluded that the situation is different in each of the media, both in most of the categories of content analysis examined and in the functioning of the newsrooms themselves. The editorial office of Hospodářské noviny is identical in terms of personnel to the editorial office of HN.cz, while the editorial offices of Mladá fronta Dnes and iDnes.cz are two different editorial offices, which, however, cooperate...

Trunečková, Daniela ; Novák, Arnošt (advisor) ; Hájek, Roman (referee)
This diploma thesis on Representation of the problem of climate change in the print media is a content analysis of Czech quality daily newspapers, namely Hospodářské noviny, Lidové noviny, Mladá fronta DNES and Právo. It deals with the way the selected daily newspapers presented debate on global climate change in 2013-2014. The theoretical part informs readers about the basic concepts and definitions and introduces them to the problem. The empirical part answers the question of whether the media coverage of global climate change in Czech quality daily newspapers is consistent with scientific findings of the international climate discourse represented by Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) or whether it relies equally on opinions of the small group of so called climate skeptics who question the general consensus of the scientific comunity regarding the causes and consequences of climate change or the need of adequate measures. The results of research indicated that most of analyzed articles informed about climate change the same way as the main climatological research. The largest number of skeptical articles appeared in Lidové noviny. A considerable number of articles didn't comment on the causes of climate change, their seriousness or decisions regarding action.

Kottová, Anna ; Kraus, Jiří (advisor) ; Jirák, Jan (referee)
My thesis named "Attitude of Czech dailies Lidové noviny, Mladá fronta Dnes and Právo to the first direct Czech presidential election" should confirm or disprove the bias of the three Czech newspapers in the period between the first and the second round of the direct presidential election. The first part of thesis focuses on selected chapters of media, linguistic and semiotic theories regarding bias. It also discusses the process of direct elections and CVs of Karel Schwarzenberg and Miloš Zeman. At first, I used quantitative analysis to determine if the newspapers were balanced and provide comparable space to the both candidates. Then I applied the qualitative analysis to find out what language and semiotic components used the authors from newspapers to inform the public about the candidates of the second round of direct elections. Depending on the findings, I divide the articles into positive, neutral, negative categories for Karel Schwarzenberg and positive, neutral, negative for Miloš Zeman. After the victory of Miloš Zeman the bias was discussed. This thesis should answer the question of whether the three Czech newspapers were biased in favour of Karel Schwarzenberg or Miloš Zeman between the first and the second round of the first direct Czech presidential election.
